December 13th, 200810 year old Marin cromoly or brand new aluminum Trek mountain bike?
Jeffchina asked:
I have an option to buy a 10 year old but well cared for cromoly framed Marin mtb with upgraded wheels and brakes and front suspension, or a brand new lower end Trek also hardtail but aluminum frame. There is also a Devinci hardtail aluminum frame for about 100 dollars more. Which should I choose?

Get the bike that is the right size frame for you to ride. There’s plenty of bikes that are bargains but if the frame is the wrong size it’ll be uncomfortable and you won’t enjoy riding it.

Depends. Fit is always the prime issue. Bad fit = bad ride. The Marin will likely be a little heavier. But I’ve ridden plenty of light bikes that rode so poorly that they weren’t worth anything to me. Steel has traditionally been considered better riding, but again test ride the bikes. You never know.
